Filme gehören ins Kino. Einfach weil sie es verdient haben; zumindest die meisten. Martha: A Picture Story von Selina Miles gehört auf jeden Fall dazu, vor allem und obwohl er nun bald auch im Internet zu sehen sein wird.

Wir glauben ans Kino, für uns schon immer ein Sehnsuchtsort, und ein Ort, an dem Filme sich entfalten, in Auseinandersetzung mit dem Raum, dem Publikum und der Atmosphäre. Ein Erlebnis, was du nicht zu Hause findest. Ein Erlebnis, das nur dadurch entsteht, dass du es mit deinen FreundInnen und dem größtenteils unbekannten Publikum teilst.
Wir saßen lange genug alleine. Lasst uns Filme wieder gemeinsam schauen, draußen und fernab von Streams & Co. Erweisen wir ihnen die Ehre und Anerkennung und besuchen sie dort, wo sie leben und zu Hause sind: Im Kino.

Martha: A Picture Story. Hättet ihr uns vor zwei Jahren gefragt, wir hätten es nicht für möglich gehalten. Aber es ist passiert. Und wirklich wahr geworden. Auch wenn der Zeitpunkt mit Blick auf Corona noch nicht klar ist, Martha: A Picture Story wird im Kino laufen, in Deutschland, Österreich, der Schweiz und den Niederlanden.
Martha Cooper, jede Lobpreisung ihrer Person wäre ihr sicherlich unangenehm, darum unternehmen wir erst gar nicht den Versuch. Fast jeder und jede kennt sie, in unserer Subkultur sowieso, doch auch darüber hinaus. Als Fotografin hat sie sich einen Namen gemacht und mit ihren Fotos mehr als eine Generation dokumentiert; und damit unvergesslich gemacht. Seit Jahrzehnten reist sie um die Welt, besucht Menschen und Orte, nimmt sie in den Blick und verewigt sie auf ihren Filmen – bis heute. Es war an der Zeit, dass diese Dokumentation entsteht. Es ist an der Zeit, dass diese Dokumentation ihre Leinwand findet.
Wir sind gespannt und freuen uns darauf.

The place for movies is the cinema. Just because they deserve it; at least most of them. Martha: A Picture Story by Selina Miles is definitely one of them, particularly and even though it will soon be released online.
We believe in cinema, for us it has always been a place of longing and a place where movies unfold in conversation with the space, the audience and the mood. It is something you won’t find at home. A unique experience only made possible by sharing it with your friends and random strangers. We’ve been sitting alone now long enough. Let us watch movies together again, away from home and streaming services. Let’s do them the honour and pay them our respects by experiencing them where they are at home and come to life: the cinema.

Martha: A Picture Story. If you had been asking us two years ago, we would not have thought it possible. And still it happened. And in fact, became reality. Even though it is not clear when due to Covid19, Martha will be released to cinemas in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Martha Cooper, praising her would surely not make her feel comfortable, that’s why we don’t even try. Nearly everyone does know her, in our subculture anyway but also beyond. She made her name as a photographer documenting more than one generation and capturing them permanently for the rest of us. For many decades now, she is travelling the world, visiting people and places, focussing and preserving them photographically – until today. It was about time for this documentary to be made. It is about time for this documentary to find its way on screen.
We already are excited.
